With Mix #165, we bring you Dj C-Mike from Los Angeles, CA. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, California. Michael “DJ C-Mike” Cortez first touched turntables back in 1998, at the age 11. His father, a musician, inspired young Mike to play piano, guitar and Drums. Soon after, Mike lost his interest playing musical instruments and instead chose the art of DJ’ing. In High School Mike was given the opportunity to open up for DJ’s such as Vice, Richard Vission and DJ Enrie to name a few. In 2001, at the age of 14 DJ C-Mike began DJ’ing at local nightclubs in the Los Angeles area. He was also among many under age DJ’s to play at 21 and over events.
In 2005, at the age of 18 Mike made his first radio debut on Latino 96.3 FM | KXOL-FM Los Angeles as a weekend Mixer. A year later Mike was given the opportunity to DJ Mornings on Latino 96.3 for the “Get up & Get Off Mix.” In 2011, at age 24, Mike took a break from radio to focus more on Nightlife bookings and Traveling. In 2012, Mike returned one final year at Latino 96.3 FM | KXOL-FM as a weekend mixer. He was then offered his own radio show to play Open Format on Exitos 93.9 FM | KXOS-FM Monday-Fridays. A year later KXOS-FM was bought out and switched to Regional Mexican Format.
In 2014, Mike decided to focus on school and give DJ’ing a rest. During Spring Break he decided to give DJ’ing one more shot creating his first project “Spring Break Party Mix 2014” with over 25k plays around the world. The mix re-opened doors for Mike to continue getting booked at the hottest Night Clubs in and out of Cali but if that was not enough Mike launched his second project “Project 2” teaming up with his Friend Will Beatz, a drummer, to play along during his music – inspired by DJ AM and Travis Barker but with a modern twist. They’re 20 Min Mixtape and hits on Youtube has given them the opportunity to play a venues in Las Vegas, San Diego, Hollywood and Orange County to name a few.
In 2014, Mike joined a DJ competition called “Who’s next on the decks” hosted by Power 106 | KPWR-FM Los Angeles. The competition was open to public with over thousands of DJ’s in and out of LA competing for the number spot. On November of 2014, Mike was announced winner of the competition winning over 2k worth of prizes and a guest spot on Power 106’s “12 Days of Mixmas.” As the journey continues, catch DJ C-Mike rocking at a club near you.
