Since forming in 1998, Gorillaz have never given an on-camera interview. Of course, that probably has something to do with the fact that they’re two-dimensional animated characters living in a 3D world.

Still, that didn’t stop two of the members (2-D and Murdoc) from sitting down for an in-depth interview with BBC Radio 1’s MistaJam before their new album Humanz comes out on April 28.

Never breaking character, the two members dive into the turbulent time creating this album, which included 2-D explaining that he was kidnapped by Murdoch in order to make the record. “It was very emotional for us,” he said of the ordeal. “Fear was one of the biggest emotions, and frustration. Emasculation is another one.”
