Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Grandmaster Flash performed at Wednesday night’s Grammy Nominations Concert with Melle Mel and Scorpio of the Furious Five and LL Cool J along with modern rappers Lupe Fiasco and Common. The performance saluted his song The Message which is being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

After the concert, he told reporters that he is currently in the studio recording his eighth album which is “totally different” from his previous albums. “There was a time when there was black music, white music, pop music, rock, but now all that’s become a blur. I have the chance to put together all these different types of music and do some sort of funky fusion.”

Grandmaster Flash’s last album was 2009’s The Bridge. Look for the new album in 2012.

He also said that he was surprised to hear from the Recording Academy for the special performance. “When you think you’ve seen and you’ve done everything you can do, you get these once-in-a-lifetime phone calls. [I was] speechless just to be in the company of this culture that I co-created on that stage.” [via VVN]
