Bruno Mars sat down with Zane Lowe for a new interview that aired Tuesday on Beats 1. Among some of the topics Mars discussed was his upcoming album, 24K Magic, his recent Super Bowl performance, and working with Adele.
“With this album, I’ll be honest with you Zane, I wanted to make a movie. A real movie,” explained Bruno about the new album. For now, it’s only the music, but he doesn’t shut the idea on the album being the soundrack for a movie down the line.
“I hope that my music does the talking,” Bruno told Zane in regards to why he avoids the limelight. “I just want to do music. I don’t want to be known for any…scandals or controversy. I want to be the guy that brings joy to your life through his music. That’s it. And I want to go home. Throw on some Netflix and live a life.”
The pair also discussed Bruno’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl, revealing how Coldplay’s Chris Martin convinced him to join. “You know, Chris’s pitch was to me was that he said I want to be the guy that I can say I got Beyoncé and Bruno to do ‘Uptown Funk’ for the Super Bowl.” Bruno also had nothing but gratitude for the opportunity to share the stage with Beyoncé. “Performing with Beyoncé. Getting to see Beyoncé and see what she does. She lets you know every time she steps on the stage that she’s not playing.”
Zane also asked Bruno what it was like working with Adele, who he collaborated with on the singer’s 25 track, “All I Ask.” “Adele is the truth. You know, she comes in the studio diva’d out, which is exactly what you want because she’s supposed to be. She knows exactly what she wants to do. She knows exactly who she is and she knows exactly what she wants to feel.”
The artist is fresh off the release of his latest single, “24K Magic,” the title track from his forthcoming new album. The project will mark his first release since dropping 2012’s Unorthodox Jukebox. 24K Magic is set to arrive Nov. 18.
