QBert is a DJ icon, one of the most inventive DJs to ever step up to the decks, and he is widely regarded as leader in the world of turntablism. He is a founding member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz with Mix Master Mike and DJ Apollo (later adding DJ Disk, Shortkut, D-Styles, DJ Flare, Yogafrog, and A-Trak) and also a member of Rock Steady DJs (the DJ unit of the legendary Rock Steady DJs). QBert has also released a series of critically acclaimed concept albums including 1994′s Demolition Pumpkin Squeeze Musik, and 1998′s Wave Twisters (which was followed by a full length animated film in 2000).

During a recent visit to the East Coast for a showcase at the DMC New York City Regional DJ Battle, QBert was gracious enough to stop by Dubspot NYC in Manhattan’s West Village to demonstrate some of his trademark scratching techniques and talk to us about his early days as a DJ, his influences (including Mix Master Ice of UTFO, Grand Wizard Theodore, Grandmaster Flash, and Christian Marclay), taking cues from jazz artists, his music production process, and outer space and extraterrestrial life. Needless to say, we are very pleased to share this workshop recap video and interview with you. Enjoy! Read more HERE.
