Kendrick Lamar‘s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” video centered on a rather festive funeral, and at the end, the words “Death to Molly” flashed on screen. Turns out the rapper is serious about ending hip-hop’s glamorization of the drug MDMA (for example, this). But K-Dot’s not exactly doing it for drug-specific reasons. Speaking with Sway of MTV, he’s making it a fight against lyrical laziness, and not necessarily about the harmful drug culture.

“I like trends…but sometimes you have trends that’s not that cool,” Lamar said. He argued that when everyone keeps rapping about molly (or any other ubiquitous trend/phrase), it just waters down the music. “It’s really about keeping hip-hop original and pushing away the corniness…It’s time to move on.” Check out the interview up top.
