The always-amusing producer and songwriter Chilly Gonzales has teamed up with German radio network 1LIVE on an episode of Pop Music Masterclass. In this short, the Canadian artist deconstructs Drake‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” exploring the track’s ’80s pop influences in its use of vintage drum machines and the help of syncopation in adding unexpected appeal to the track. Offering various melodic interpretations, Gonzales also reference examples from Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” to help dissect the Majid Jordan-produced hit.
