In-demand Dutch progressive and electro-house specialist Hardwell has taken the crown as the world’s No. 1 DJ, according to a poll conducted by clubbing and electronic music title DJ Mag.
Hardwell (real name Robbert van de Corput) beat out countryman and trance veteran Armin Van Buuren — a five-time winner of the accolade — to take victory in what is the 20th year DJ Mag has published its annual Top 100 DJs poll.
Rounding out the top five are Sweden’s Avicii, Dutchman Tiësto and Frenchman David Guetta. He might have missed out on the big prize, but Tiësto did claim the inaugural Top 100 DJs Legend Award.
Twenty-five year old Hardwell, who is the youngest ever winner of the public-voted competition, received the award Saturday at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). Legendary Italian producer and Daft Punk collaborator Giorgio Moroder was on hand to present the honor.
Meanwhile, the 2013 edition of the ADE put up best-ever numbers, organizers say. The five-day conference wrapped-up Oct. 20 and was a swift sell-out. More than 5,000 music professionals and guest speakers attended, including Nile Rodgers, Richie Hawtin and Tiesto, while the night-time “festival” attracted some 300,000 gig-goers and more than 2,156 artists.
